Canyon of the Ancients

A spiritual journey into the Mysterious world of the Anasazi

September 2009

Red sandstone arches and soaring pinnacles topped with stone. Thousand-year-old apartment houses built into the sides of sheer rock cliffs were home to the ancient ones. The Anasazi, a mysterious group of Native American Indians left behind little to the untrained eye, but the remains of their highly complicated and well-planned cities when they simply vanished from the earth. When one enters into the these sites with respect and ceremony, one enters into the unseen world of these ancient spiritual travelers and one can discover a great deal was left that is timely for us a we evolve into the next age of our earth.

Experience the magic of these places beyond what the average tourist will experience as you gain access into a mysterious world through ritual, and ceremony.

We will be staying at a lovely spiritual retreat center in Dolores, Colorado in the heart of the ancient Anasazi Indians. A wonderful location for teaching, meditation and an inner journey into your soul potential. The women that manage this retreat center are gentle souls and are currently building a peace meditation center to honor all faiths and religions. This is certainly in alignment with the vision of reuniting the Rainbow Tribe. Our days will be filled with celebration and honoring of the old ways, laughter and joy.

Day 1

The adventure begins with your flight into Durango, Colorado Once you arrive at the airport all arrangements have made for you. Every detail to create a magical experience has been handled. Upon arrival we will depart for our retreat center in Dolores, Colorado, approximately a one hour drive in air-conditioned passenger vans. Check into our lovely accomodations and settle in to our home for the next six days. This evening we will have a wonderful dinner at the retreat center and ceremony to begin our journey. Navajo Indian dancers will make a personal appearance just for our group to share there energy and perform their very powerful native dances. (D)

Day 2

Today I have a very special morning planned as we head for the town of Mancos, for a horseback ride into native land where we will have a hearty breakfast and celebrate the Summer Solstice with a morning ceremony to honor the ancients and celebrate the turning of the Great Cosmic wheel. If there is someone who prefers not to ride the horses I have already made arrangements for a ride with the cook to our breakfast location. After breakfast we ride back to the base camp and venture into the town of Cortez for shopping at the local trade posts for official coloradon artifacts and jewelry. In the afternoon we head back to the Anasazi Cultural Center to explore some of the ancient Anasazi ruins. This evening we will have dinner at the Naked Moose. The evening we will have a gratitude ceremony under the stars. (B)

Day 3

After a gourmet breakfast we head for the sacred forest where we will spend most of our day hiking down to the river and the sacred rocks. We will take a picnic lunch with us. At the river we will perform ceremony and spend some time in this magical nature setting for private meditation. Tonight we have arranged a very special dinner. Our transportation is an old stage coach traveling through the forests on the old trails to our dinner station where we will have an old fashioned steak dinner with all the trimmings including cowboys and another meditation under the stars. (B/L/D)

Day 4

After breakfast we will experience Mesa Verde, the ancient city of the Anasazi to see the amazing cliff dwellings and architectural wonder that takes your breath way when you first experience the genius of these ancient builders. We will spend most of the day exploring all the sites. Returning to our retreat center we will enjoy dinner together in the local town. Evening meditation and as a special treat we have arranged a traditional sand painter from the reservation to spend time with our group demonstrating this ancient art and sharing the old ways. He will have pieces of his work on display for anyone who would like to purchase something. (B)

Day 5

After breakfast we will have our final ceremony of gratitude and setting the intention for what we are stepping forward to embrace. We travel back to the airport stopping in Durango for lunch and any last minute shopping before departing on our flight home. (B)

Sleep will of course be an option as many of you who have traveled with me know; often we are called to venture out at night to connect to the star beings and the ancestors in ceremony. True magic happens when one experiences the hidden and unseen world under the stars and these are the times you do not want to miss.
