The first of three Celtic harvest festivals, the Festival of Bread is a time when the Sun God begins to weaken and the days begin to grow shorter as the nights grow longer. The Goddess represented as the Queen of Abundance is honored as the new mother who has given birth to her bounty and the God is honored as the God of Prosperity.
This is a very powerful night to be reminded that nothing in the universe is consistent and the lesser begins to give way to the greater. The Goddess is honored and traditions and rituals for this night of prosperity, abundance and good fortune are performed. This is a time of thanksgiving and receiving the gifts of Mother Nature and harvesting all that one has worked so hard for throughout the year.
Pigs were seen as sacred to the Mother Goddess so this year known as the Year of the Fire Pig makes the celebration of Llamas even more powerful. Native Americans celebrate this festival by honoring the Corn Grandmother. The ancient Egyptians celebrated this time as the birth of Isis so it is a powerful night to empower the Goddess and receive her blessings, as Isis is the mother of all Goddess aspects. In India the cotton is harvested and venerated similar to the Native American celebration of the first harvest of corn.
